Sun Ra – The All of Everything

One of my favorite Sun Ra tracks is the pensive “The All of Everything” off of the 1970 album “The Night of the Purple Moon.” This album is one of the few recordings of Sun Ra with a smaller ensemble than the full Arkestra. On “The All of Everything” Ra plays the Rocksichord and is joined by Stafford James on bass, the tenor saxophonist John Gilmore on percussion, and Danny Davis on flute.

A Decade of Flying Lotus, Mixed by The Gaslamp Killer

Flying Lotus just posted this free thirty-nine minute mix of a decade’s worth of his tracks over at the Brainfeeder site:

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to everyone.

As we’re approaching this new year, I felt it was time to let go of some things that have been gathering dust. Some old things, and some new things, I tried to pick out tracks that I know yall haven’t heard yet so there should be surprises around every turn.

Can’t believe I’ve been making tracks for over 10 years now.. That said, there’s so much to learn still.

I hope you all enjoy this mix. Thanks to the Gaslamp Killer for doing an incredible job on this.

Can’t wait for you all to hear my album ‘Cosmogramma’ coming out April 20th 2010 on Warp Records.

Internet Archaeologists Find Ruins of ‘Friendster’ Civilization

The Onion nails it as usual:

“Today the ruins of the site remain perfectly preserved, as they were at the time of Friendster’s demise, sometime around mid to late twenty-o-four a.d..

“Their lives just come to a complete stop.. like a fly trapped in amber.”

Underbelly

underbelly

Underbelly is a new album of “melodic glitchy acoustic guitar songs” from my good friend and the prolific Brooklyn-based musician/producer/mc Domer, a.k.a. Adam Nelson. The Underbelly project is a different direction from Domer’s recent work. As co-founder of freeicecream.net Domer produced many of the site’s releases and rapped on almost all of them.

Eleven Underbelly tracks are waiting for you as a free download, just in time for staying up all night during the last blizzard of the decade (fingers crossed).

Listen to the first song here:

“An Awesome Book!” by Dallas Clayton

Dallas Clayton created “An Awesome Book!” The story is universally appealing and brilliantly illustrated. The way Dallas has promoted the book is also incredibly inspiring:

“With a traditional publisher, you go to stores and you try to read the book to audiences to sell it to them. Since I did this all myself I can do whatever I want. My idea was to read the book to as many kids as I could and for every book that I had already sold I wanted to give one away.”

You can read the whole book here.
