For just the second time during their complete cover of INXS’ Kick, Beck has given lead vocal duties to St. Vincent’s Annie Clark, and the results are stellar: She straight kills “Never Tear Us Apart.” This is perhaps the first song from Beck’s Record Club project that could be released as a single that would appeal to people beyond Beck completists. There’s a Phil Spector, ’60s vibe happening here thanks to the violins, Clark’s lovely vocals and Angus Andrews’ harmonies (which is something I never, ever thought I’d write). Great stuff.
